When distractions get the best of you…

With the distraction of multiple social network bells and whistles, email, the cell phone, and countless other interruptions – how in the world does one get anything accomplished?

Today I read about time management, whether social media makes us better people, and about how to empower others to help you achieve what you want.  With all that reading and the ding ding of my Twitter client, chiming of my Gmail, and ringing of my phone….not to mention the needs of my children – I have resigned myself to being satisfied with accomplishing one goal a week.

Am I setting the bar too low?  The answer is  – NO!

We all have good days and bad days….and it’s important to set challenging but achievable goals.  I find comfort in the fact that I am staying on top of my daily routines and am keeping everyone satisfied…including myself.  I automate as much as I can, and always take care of the absolutes each day, but anything that is flexible is saved for last.  Each day I look for a quote that will set the tone for the day – today it is: “sometimes you feel like a nut….sometimes you don’t” nut_s

This is my mantra for the day…not because I need a candy bar….because:

“sometimes you feel like writing…and sometimes you don’t” – and that’s OK.

It’s my feeling that as long as you regulate your distractions and you are able to meet your deadlines and effectively do what needs to be done, then you’ve succeeded.

Do you have a hard time focusing?  How do manage when you’re spending more time being distracted than being effective?

  1. LOL I have SUCH a hard time staying focused!! That’s why I read this post as soon as you tweeted it… I thought, oh maaaan, can I relate ;)

  2. What a question! Yes I get distracted at times, and although I keep my distractions to a minimum (no twitter dings or gmail notifications, just yahoo) and try to focus on whatever I am doing, the beauty of being an entrepreneur is the latitude we have in “being” distracted if we want to be…usually deadlines are of our own making and not others.

I seem to thrive on multi-screen-tasking (nice term huh?) I flit from tab to tab and somehow get it all done…or not as I choose. And tomorrow is another day to immerse myself in the madness once again.

But I wouldn’t turn down a candy bar once in a while!! :)
